Excellent care goes beyond the technical ability to perform a procedure or treatment; it is about the bigger picture. The quality of interaction between people, environment and machines plays a crucial role.
Service robots nowadays welcome you as receptionists, show you the way or bring you your drink. There was a fully robotised restaurant during the recent Winter Olympics, and closer to home, the restaurant Dadawan employs service robots at its locations in Maastricht and Kerkrade.
Also in healthcare, there are great examples of how robots can help make life a bit easier. With high workloads and lasting labour shortages, the use of robots has great potential in the current healthcare landscape. Leaving routine tasks to our digital companions means we free up time for personal contact and overall patient experience; a win-win for both patients and healthcare professionals.
During this two-hour session, researchers from the Maastricht Centre for Robots at Maastricht University will take you through a state-of-the-art overview of how service robots can add value for organisations and what aspects are important determinants for a successful implementation. They will share insights from research as well as some best practices from organisations that already adopted robots in their daily work routines.
The session will have a small-scale, interactive format with room for peer-to-peer discussion and a hands-on experience with a service robot.
Dominik Mahr combines state-of-the-art research with practical experience. Kars Mennens is working as a postdoctoral researcher at BISCI – the Brightlands Institute for Supply Chain Innovation. So far, his research has focused on innovation in SMEs. Specifically, in his dissertation he closely collaborated with the Province of Limburg, LIOF and regional SMEs to investigate the drivers of manufacturing SME’s innovation performance.
Mark Steins is Lecturer and PhD Candidate for the Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management at Maastricht University School of Business and Economics. His research interest currently focuses around service innovation, more specifically Service robots (The Impact of Service Robots on Customer Experience and Choice in High Contact Service Settings).
