Service innovation can be relevant for all levels within an organisation from bottom up and top down. The context and mindset of the specific organisation is important as well as the existing tools available. The drivers for change may be different, but the question often asked is: Where do we start? Where an organisation sees a sense of urgency, they see the competition going forward, or the changes in the industry and have a sense of stormy weather, then it is easier to make the strategic change.

In the past, there was always a clear distinction between a product and a service, something tangible vs something intangible. Nowadays, those traditional perceptions and boundaries have blurred. The value of a certain service or product is now the key. Organisations need to innovate with services to survive.
