Closing the Loop: The Power of Circular P&SM

COVID-19 underlines the growing need for a more sustainable economic system. The circular economy is a well-known example, designed to maximise the reusability of products and raw materials and minimise value destruction. This is in contrast to the current – predominantly linear – system in which raw materials are converted into products that are destroyed at the end of their lifespans.

In this webinar we will focus on the (business) opportunities that a switch in purchasing & supply management (P&SM) methodology can bring to your organisation. This session aims to boost your understanding of the opportunities, yet also the potential risks of circular P&SM, especially in times of a pandemic.

Bart Vos is Scientific Director at Brightlands Institute for Supply Chain Innovation (BISCI) and NEVI Professor of purchasing and supply chain management. Professor Vos has been working at the cutting edge of scientific theory and business practice since obtaining his doctorate 25 years ago. He believes in “passing on to industry the knowledge gained in scientific research”. He promotes co-creation with companies, so that solutions to logistical challenges emerge, as part of a ‘triple-helix’ approach which also involves government institutions. “This co-creation is a multi-edged sword, because academic education can introduce young students to logistical problems and practical solutions. At BISCI, this will involve Master’s students, which is also good for companies looking for new talent.”
